About Orthodontics
And Your Treatment
in Our Office
The result of orthodontic treatment is not just a beautiful smile. Orthodontic treatment ensures a functional and healthy bite that lasts a lifetime for both adults and children. Dr. Geran and her team take their educational roles seriously by making sure that each patient receives specific home care instructions during regularly scheduled visits. We invite your questions and will be pleased to provide you with a better understanding of your particular treatment at any time.
The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children be seen by an orthodontist by the age of seven. The purpose of an early visit is to evaluate whether changes in the child's skeletal pattern are needed. If changes are needed, plans can be made to begin treatment at the ideal time. There are several advantages to early treatment. If detected early, serious problems can be more easily corrected and more extensive treatment, such as jaw surgery, can be avoided at a later age. If early treatment is not needed, your child will be placed in our recall program. The recall program allows Dr. Geran to monitor the growth and development of the teeth and jaws. This allows her to determine the ideal time to begin treatment in order to provide the most optimal outcome. top
Comprehensive Orthodontic Treatment:
Comprehensive orthodontic treatment, or 'full braces' can begin once all or most of the permanent teeth are in place, which is during adolescence. Most people think that orthodontic treatment is just for children. The truth is that people of all ages, including adults, receive orthodontic care for healthier teeth and gums, improved chewing abilty, and an increased confidence from a beautiful smile. top
Aesthetics is important to many patients who desire orthodontic treatment. Dr. Geran offers an exciting new technology to straighten the teeth using clear retainers called Invisalign. No braces or wires are used! The retainers are invisible and so thin that speech is barely affected. They are removable, thus there are no diet restrictions and the teeth can be easily cleaned. Invisalign can correct a wide variety of problems such as crowding and spacing, but is not for everyone, and is only recommended for patients 16 years of age or older. If you are not a candidate for Invisalign, Dr. Geran offers porcelain braces, which are clear and do not absorb colors or odors. They will allow you to meet all of your treatment goals while almost being invisible. top

These records allow Dr. Geran to formulate the most efficient and ideal plan of treatment for your specific needs. top

Office Contests
and
The SLO Punch Program
In addition to providing you with the highest quality of care, we like to make your visits with us enjoyable.
Office Contests: We continuously offer contests for the patients and parents. Look for the current contest at the sign in table when you arrive for your visit. Prizes are drawn approximately every six weeks. Common prizes are gift certificates for the movie theatre, mall, or stores such as Best Buy. We are always trying to think of new ideas for contests and would welcome your ideas and input! Parents can find their monthly contest in the waiting room.
The Punch Program: In order for you to obtain excellent treatment results, cooperation with the proper care of your appliances such as good brushing and elastic wear is of paramount importance. In order to encourage you to meet these goals, we will give you a 'report card' at each of your visits. The report card will 'grade' you on how well you are brushing and following instructions. A good grade in each category will reward you with points or punches, which can be redeemed for prizes. These prizes range from an ice cream at Mickeys to a portable CD player or gift certificate to Best Buy. We find that the patients really enjoy collecting these punches and we delight in rewarding them for meeting their goals.
